About the Champions

cham-pi-on

noun – a person who fights for or defends any person or cause

verb – to act as champion of; defend; support: to champion a cause

There are nine regionally-based champions for ICT working across England with ChangeUp consortia. We are trusted individuals with a track record of providing reliable and authoritative ICT advice to the voluntary and community sector. Funded by Capacitybuilders and coordinated by NAVCA, we help ensure that ICT plays a positive role in sustaining a strong and effective third sector.

Our work is to build the capacity of established networks and support services at local, regional and national levels, to develop resources and to provide signposting so that organisations can use technology more efficiently and effectively. We support members of ChangeUp Consortia, local support and development organisations (such as a CVS’), Volunteer Centres and other specialist support agencies working with third sector staff, volunteers and trustees.

We don’t promote technology for its own sake as we believe it must be tailored to reflect people’s own needs and we can’t provide direct hands-on support to front line groups but will signpost to existing local support providers.

Each champion has regional goals which reflect the priorities in their area, as well as series of aims which connect their work at a national level and with the other Capacitybuilders National Support Services.
