How do I get rid of old ICT equipment?

Very carefully. There are legal constraints on what you are allowed to do, environmental issues about behaving responsibly and security issues about removing data.

If the equipment still works think about extending its lifespan. Add more RAM, get a bigger hard drive or stick to internet access and word processing.

Some charities refurbish and recycle computers. Ask locally, or post it to organisations such as www.computeraid.org.

Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment is carefully regulated. Your local Council will have information about local facilities. If you have lots of equipment to get rid of you may need to pay for it to be taken away.

Software is available to completely erase your data, but the safest way is to physically destroy the hard drive.
